Help Override Chris Christie's veto

Help Override Chris Christie's veto

Take a stand against Chris Christie's huge tax cut for millionaires and for restoration of property tax rebates for senior and disabled homeowners in your town.

As you know Governor Christie has eliminated property tax rebates for all New Jerseyans in the upcoming budget, all to fund Chris Christie's insistence on a huge tax cut for New Jersey's 16,000 millionaires.. While these tax increases will be difficult for everyone to deal with, it is our senior and disabled residents on a fragile fixed income who are least able to handle this additional burden.

On May 20th Democrats passed bills A10/S10 and A20/S20 that would reinstate recently expired surcharge for New Jersey residents whose taxable earnings are over $1 million a year.

Fill out the form at our Veto Override webpage and we will email you a letter personalized to your specific town and legislative district for you to send or email to your Mayor and Legislators.

While this surcharge would only affect 16,000 New Jerseyans it would create enough revenue to restore property tax rebates for over 600,000 senior and disabled homeowners across the state.

Unfortunately Governor Christie vetoed both bills.

This is not a partisan issue; it's about doing what is right and fair for the seniors of New Jersey who have made it such a great place to live. Taking an average of over $1000 out of their pocket may force them to make dangerous choices with their spending.

Soon there will be a historic vote in the state legislature to override Governor Christie's veto and restore the property tax rebates. By letting your mayor and legislators know your feelings on this important issue, together we can help override the veto.

Saturday in Cherry Hill 50 candidates, activists and volunteers from across South Jersey took part in the NJDSC South Jersey training. The Central Jersey training is this Saturday in East Brunswick and the North Jersey training is next Saturday in Newark. To register for either training Click Here

Democrats cleaning up Chris Christie's mess

Democrats cleaning up Chris Christie's mess
Backing down from weeks of pressure from Democrats in the legislature and citizens around New Jersey, last week Governor Christie announced that he was going to restore funding for prescription assistance for New Jersey's seniors. Ironically it was federal funding and policy changes from President Obama's Health Care Reform that provided the money for the restoration of these benefits.

Now Democrats in Washington are hoping to help ease the pain of another of Chris Christie's taxes on the middle class, the huge fare hikes he has imposed on NJ Transit.

The nearly 900,000 riders of NJ Transit trains and buses are facing up to a 64 per cent increase in their fares and a dramatically longer commute with 31 trains being placed out of service. More information about how much your daily commute will now cost you and what trains have been eliminated can be found at www.njfarewatch.com.

Fortunately Senators Bob Menendez and Frank Lautenberg recognize the hardship this will place on the hard working people of New Jersey. They have co-sponsored a piece of legislation that would counteract the damage done by Governor Christie and reverse many of the fare hikes and service cuts instituted by the Republican Governor.

Sign this petition to show them your support for their efforts.

Governor Christie's retreat on his increases for New Jersey's seniors' prescription drug prices is a testament to how hard the Democrats are working to prevent the unreasonable hardships dictated by the Governors budget. In a time that families are struggling to make ends meet, Democrats understand that every penny counts. The proposed bill by New Jersey's Senators is a step towards alleviating the financial burden that Governor Christies budget places on New Jersey's families.
