Backing down from weeks of pressure from Democrats in the legislature and citizens around New Jersey, last week Governor Christie announced that he was going to restore funding for prescription assistance for New Jersey's seniors. Ironically it was federal funding and policy changes from President Obama's Health Care Reform that provided the money for the restoration of these benefits. Now Democrats in Washington are hoping to help ease the pain of another of Chris Christie's taxes on the middle class, the huge fare hikes he has imposed on NJ Transit. The nearly 900,000 riders of NJ Transit trains and buses are facing up to a 64 per cent increase in their fares and a dramatically longer commute with 31 trains being placed out of service. More information about how much your daily commute will now cost you and what trains have been eliminated can be found at www.njfarewatch.com. Fortunately Senators Bob Menendez and Frank Lautenberg recognize the hardship this will place on the hard working people of New Jersey. They have co-sponsored a piece of legislation that would counteract the damage done by Governor Christie and reverse many of the fare hikes and service cuts instituted by the Republican Governor. Sign this petition to show them your support for their efforts. Governor Christie's retreat on his increases for New Jersey's seniors' prescription drug prices is a testament to how hard the Democrats are working to prevent the unreasonable hardships dictated by the Governors budget. In a time that families are struggling to make ends meet, Democrats understand that every penny counts. The proposed bill by New Jersey's Senators is a step towards alleviating the financial burden that Governor Christies budget places on New Jersey's families.
